Every pond is different, so I quote for yours. The price depends on the size of the pond, how much sludge and weed there is, whether there are fish, the filter set-up and access. For most garden ponds, I recommend a thorough clean once or twice a year, typically in spring and autumn. How often depends on pond size, fish stock, surrounding trees and filtration.
Autumn (September to November) is best for most ponds, with spring (March to May) a good second choice. I avoid big cleans in hot summer weather and in deep winter, when fish are less able to cope. See my guide: when to clean a pond in the UK.
A full pond clean includes sludge and debris removal, cleaning of the pond edges, removal of excess algae and blanket weed, filter and pump inspection, a partial water change, water quality testing and maintenance advice. Every clean also comes with a free fish health check and bacteria treatment.
Absolutely. Fish safety is my top priority. I use gentle, fish-safe cleaning methods and avoid harsh chemicals. For intensive cleans, I can temporarily move fish to holding tanks with aerated pond water.
Not usually. For most cleans the fish stay in the pond while I vacuum out the sludge. A full drain-down is only needed for very neglected ponds, and then your fish are held safely in aerated tanks of their own pond water until the pond is ready.
It depends on size and condition. Small ponds (under 1,000 litres) take 2 to 3 hours. Medium ponds (1,000 to 5,000 litres) take 3 to 5 hours. Larger or neglected ponds may need a full day.
Pond sludge and weed make a great free fertiliser, so they usually go onto your borders or compost heap. If you would rather it was taken away, just let me know when you book.
Yes. I remove blanket weed by hand, treat green water and check the filter and UV clarifier, which is often where the problem starts. I will also advise on plants and shade to help stop it coming back.
Yes. Wildlife ponds are cleaned gently and at the right time of year, so frogs, newts and other wildlife are not disturbed.
Yes. I offer one-off deep cleans and regular pond maintenance visits (monthly, quarterly or seasonal) to keep your pond in top condition all year.
